Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Willkie Farr & Gallagher and Darrois Villey Maillot Brochier have picked up lead roles as US food group General Mills agrees to buy a 50% stake in French yoghurt company Yoplait, in a deal that values the company at €1.6bn (£1.4bn). General Mills entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire buyout house PAI Partners’ 50% stake in the company last week (18 March), following a competitive bidding process.

Norton Rose has hired Willkie Farr & Gallagher partner Stephane Sabatier to join its corporate finance team in Paris. Sabatier, who specialises in M&A and capital markets advice, joined the UK firm’s partnership on 24 February. He said: “I was impressed by the collegiate nature of the Norton Rose Group and its culture which reinforces the practice of building client relationships by tapping global resources and expertise of the partners to offer clients the best teams to suit their business needs.”

Dewey & LeBoeuf, which has already lost at least 18 partners in the first two months of the year, has now lost its core insurance sector transactional team to Willkie Farr & Gallagher, reports The Am Law Daily. The departures include London partners Joseph Ferraro and Nicholas Bugler, as well as three practice leaders in New York – Michael Groll, co-chair of the firm’s insurance sector group; John Schwolsky, co-chair of the corporate finance practice group; and Alexander Dye, chair of the firm’s US M&A practice.

Clifford Chance’s (CC) global head of aerospace and defence Georg Linde is leaving to join US firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher in Frankfurt. The Frankfurt-based partner has been at CC since 1999, and made partner in 2005. His practice covers corporate, M&A and private equity, with a particular focus on the aerospace, IT and telecoms, chemicals and renewable energy sectors.

Hogan Lovells is to bulk up its Frankfurt arm with the hire of a 10-lawyer capital markets team from Willkie Farr & Gallagher, with news of the hires coming as the co-head of the transatlantic firm’s employment team departs for Allen & Overy (A&O) in Frankfurt with a three-lawyer team. Willkie partners Michael Schlitt and Susanne Schaefer are set to join Hogan Lovells’ Frankfurt office on 1 February, taking an eight-lawyer team including one counsel, two senior associates and two associates with them to the international firm.
